Can you sue landlord if...?

You've been paying rent for the time you've been living there. Is that wrong? Did he collect the rent and then not let you live there? I'm not sure I understand how you've been damaged by his actions. But if the house has already been foreclosed upon, then he's no longer the owner and you would probably need to find out who the new owner is and see if they want you to pay them rent.
